I still think its necessary to become master of the craft, so you can use it (or abuse it) at will. It's only by becoming fluent in it, you can be free of it. Thanks for your comment, and your continued inspiration to all writers.James Killickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14513775874350745555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599540626069345545.post-5475641255548584832013-04-16T11:38:35.464+01:002013-04-16T11:38:35.464+01:00Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment...Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long)
so I guess I'll just sum it up what I had written and say, I'm
thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog
blogger but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any points for rookie blog writers? I'd certainly appreciate it.

Also visit my blog post Bmi chartsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599540626069345545.post-47068679579288620412013-04-08T14:45:19.744+01:002013-04-08T14:45:19.744+01:00A fine post, James. I'm surprised that so many blogs focus on craft and few, if any, to the aesthetics of writing.

As you wrote elsewhere, there's a glut of writing advice on the web, but no-one seems to care about conveying beauty. And beauty, to me, is a huge part of the reading experience. Pedestrian writing will put me off any story; there's no good story without good writing, and good writing is beautiful.

It's fine to warn people against excesses of language - but of late I see writers campaigning against parts of speech, like adverbs. Which I find ridiculous. All parts of speech are necessary.

I've come across a good deal of writing advice that seems geared toward people who couldn't find their foot at the end of their leg. These are probably the same people that mistake craft for the be-all and end-all of writing. Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11113482909499600834noreply@blogger.com
